| Sailing Yachts: For Sale: LM27 Superb Example |
 |
Many additional photos are available by making contact with the advertiser.
LM27 For Sale:
This superb yacht has been lovingly looked after and improved by its present owners and is offered for sale in a fully ‘sail away’ condition. The purchase of a Dutch Barge, intended for the cruising of the French canals, has forced the sale of this much loved boat. She is currently in commission on the River Blackwater in Essex and may be viewed by contacting the advertiser (the owner) who also will be pleased to answer any questions and to email an assortment of photos that will give an indication of the quality of this yacht.
With the LM27, whilst your sailing friends are being lashed by freezing rain and spray in an exposed cockpit, you could be in a heated wheelhouse, dry, warm and comfortable and enjoying tea and cakes.
In addition to wheel steering in the fully enclosed wheelhouse, there is a tiller in the cockpit and the boat may be sailed either with or without the canopy in place. When the canopy is in place, rope handling is made simple by very easily rolling up one, or both of the sides. The entire cockpit canopy can be put up or taken down in less than two minutes.
Arguably the best motor sailer ever produced and certainly one of the most popular, with in excess of 1500 having been made, the LM 27 is an exceptionally well built and reassuringly seaworthy wheelhouse cruising yacht. They have a reputation for being easy to handle and for their spritely sailing performance, as highlighted by both ‘Yachting World’ and ‘Yachting Monthly’ in reviews carried out over recent years.
Hull
The hull design is based upon the highly regarded Scandinavian “Colin Archer” sailing lifeboat; very reassuring should one get caught out in a blow.
Of the 4 tonne displacement weight, nearly half of it is encapsulated into the long keel, making the craft very stable and immensely strong. This craft has had a multi-layer epoxy preventative treatmnent applied below the waterline.
Accommodation
Possibly the most remarkable feature of the LM27 is the unexpectedly huge amount of living accommodation.
Forecabin
The forecabin has twin ‘V’ berths, that, with the infill cushion in place, convert to a massive double bed.
Saloon
The saloon area has full length bench seats on either side, but with the backrest removed and repositioned between the bench and the central table, they convert to two double beds or a pair of truly enormous single bunks.
Cockpit
The cockpit, once the canopy is erected, can be converted into a third cabin. The fitted curtains are attached with velcro and the bench cushions are put in place to make another two, full length bunks, giving a total sleeping capacity of 8 berths!
As one might expect, with all of this accommodation, there is plenty of locker space both above and below the bunks. There is stowage under the floor, under the step, in the hanging locker, in the heads, lots in the galley/wheelhouse, and also in the cockpit.
When socializing, the saloon will comfortably seat five people and the cockpit a further six, so, if you include the helm seat, that is a total of twelve seats!
Almost full length tables in both the saloon and cockpit give the option of either dining below, cosy by the fire and perhaps watching a little TV, or dining alfresco in the cockpit and watching the sunset. All of the carpets throughout are brand new and the cabin cushions and curtains are in good condition.
Heating
The saloon of this particular LM27 is fitted with one of the best diesel heaters available; the ’Newport’ by Dickinson. It is a drip feed, bulkhead mounted heater that consumes no electricity at all. It has proved to be completely reliable and can output between 1.9Kw and an impressive 4.7Kw; enough to keep the entire boat beautifully warm, even when sailing in the darkest, coldest days of winter. It is easy to light, quick to warm up and simple to control, but best of all, you can enjoy the homely glow of a real flame through the front viewing window.
Heads
Down two steps and between the wheelhouse and the saloon are the heads/washroom on the port side and the hanging locker on the starboard side. The heads is equipped with a very reliable and recently refurbished sea toilet, together with a pull out wash basin and a large mirror on the back of the door and storage for wash bags etc.
Hanging locker
The hanging locker is tall and deep enough to take several sets of waterproofs and also houses a couple of useful shelves.
Galley/wheelhouse
Very cleverly, the galley is positioned in the wheelhouse, allowing a much more spacious saloon and keeping the activity of cooking away from the sleeping area; particularly helpful when night sailing. Being able to make a hot drink or snack whilst single handed sailing without going below is a great safety feature. Hidden beneath the helm seat is a sliding worktop which is a useful addition to the galley during meal preparation time. Positioned next to the two burner hob is the sink which is supplied by pumped cold water. The gas has its own locker which is correctly drained over the side.
Helm position
The helm position offers superb visibility and the ‘tank hatch’ above the seat allows one to stand up with head and shoulders outside, but in full reach of both the wheel and throttle controls; very helpful during close quarters maneuvering.
This particular LM27 has lockable doors separating the wheelhouse from the cockpit, but these can be folded fully back to allow full access between the two spaces.
Cockpit
The cockpit has new Teak faced bench seats and vinyl covered cushions and the cockpit canopy has recently been replaced and the mild steel support hoop replaced with a stainless steel equivalent. The cockpit is self draining and the sole is of strip teak and in superb condition, as is the floor of the wheelhouse. The tables in both the wheelhouse and saloon are of varnished wood and are both in excellent condition. The helm seat is brand new and the fitted curtains for the wheelhouse windows and the cockpit canopy are all very good.
Engine
Under the cockpit sole is the insulated engine compartment giving full access and consequently easy maintenance.
The Bukh DV20 diesel engine is original but lightly used and lovingly maintained. One of the best and most reliable diesels available and one of the few that was designed for use as a marine engine rather than adapted from other uses, this engine has never missed a beat, does not smoke and has always started at first turn of the key. In its insulated housing it is acceptably quiet and will happily propel the boat along at six knots via a fixed three bladed propeller. It has recently had a new water pump, new engine mounts, new seals and new twin fuel filters. Having twin filters allows you to immediately switch between them if there is an emergency, rather than attempting to change a blocked filter whilst under way.

This lovely looking little boat is both a sailing boat, with the auxillary single gunter rigged sail, and a motor boat. She was really designed to be used as a motor boat for fishing purposes and the sail used to get home without the engine if needed!

Hunter Formula One "Zombie Zoo" A fast, rewarding, and well sorted boat ready for family fun & winning in IRC. Anything that affects performance is up to date and in very good condition and overall she is clean and tidy. The Formula One is an active One Design Class with the same number of boats at the Nationals as the Sonata last year. We have found the large cockpit and light sheet loads make the F1 a great boat to sail with a young family, and the "camping" accommodation (4 berth) has allowed us to overnight as a family and enjoy bacon butties as we slip the anchorage in the morning mist! The lifting keel makes for easy launch and recovery, and reduces mooring and yard costs.
Zombie has been optimised for IRC with a number of features that are quickly removed to revert back to OD compliant. The boat has been raced in an IRC fleet for the last 2 years at West Mersea with the following recent honours:
Winner of
Friday Night Series '09, Centenary Cup '09
WMYC Regatta '09, Town Regatta '09, Overton Trophy '08
She's a quick boat!

As I have done this many times I am happy to discuss delivering at cost.
